He picked up his cider and took a long draught from it, not taking his eyes off of hers.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThey didn\u2019t hate you, you know,\u201d Kali said. \u201cDad wasn\u2019t <\/span>happy<\/span><\/i>, of course, but it wasn\u2019t personal like that. Even less so for mom.\u201d Kali paused briefly and smiled. \u201cAnd you know what she\u2019s like. As soon as others started making it their business, she almost became <\/span>supportive<\/span><\/i>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Alexis chuckled softly, took another drink, and said, \u201cWish I could say the same. Being <\/span>half<\/span><\/i>-Chelish really just made it worse.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI am surprised they even let me in the house.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n He shrugged his shoulders and cocked his head to the left. But tell me I\u2019m wrong.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Kali grinned, then finished her drink without saying a word.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThought so,\u201d he said smugly, and then grinned right back at her. \u201cI\u2019m used to it, you know. Comes with the name.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re the black sheep of the family. Or would that be the white sheep?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Alexis snickered at that. \u201cMaybe grey. I\u2019m running one of the mills, remember.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cLight grey. Send my best to Sefa, just in case I don\u2019t see her while I\u2019m here.
